Activities

Postal Museum

The Mauritius Postal Museum showcases the island’s postal history through three permanent galleries. Visitors can explore rare stamps from the colonial era (1847–1967) and post-independence issues (1968–1995), including famous classics such as the Britannias and Victorians. The museum also displays historical photographs of post offices and mail transport, and features a gift shop offering stamps, philatelic accessories and souvenir items.

Naval Museum

Located in Mahebourg, within a 12-acre park along the River La Chaux, the National History Museum is housed in Château Gheude, a French colonial residence dating back to 1772. The museum highlights Mauritius’ naval and colonial history, including artefacts recovered from shipwrecks and collections originating from the Naval Relics Museum and the Museum of Historical Souvenirs. It also commemorates the Battle of Grand Port (1810), a significant event in Mauritian history.

Blue Bay Marine Park:
Located on Mauritius’ South-East coast, Blue Bay was declared a national park in 1997 and a RAMSAR site in 2008. Renowned for its vibrant coral gardens and rich marine biodiversity, it offers ideal conditions for snorkeling. The park, near Mahebourg, features the famous 1,000-year-old brain coral (5 meters in diameter) and is the main tourist attraction in the region.

Big Game Fishing:
Mauritius is a top global destination for big game fishing, with deep waters just 1 km from shore. Species include marlin, sharks, tuna, sailfish, and Dorado. The best season is September to March, but fishing is possible year-round. A catch-and-release policy helps preserve marine ecosystems.

Blue Safari Submarine:
The only submarine operator in the Indian Ocean offers dives to 35 meters, showcasing colorful fish, coral reefs, and the wreck of the “Star of Hope.” Dives last 40 minutes with guidance from marine biologist-trained pilots, providing a safe, unique, and unforgettable experience for all ages.
